Theseus’ stay in Hades in the first part of the tragedy (fr. 686 R.), the political interpretation of the myth (fr. 683 R.) and its setting in Athens seem to be innovations introduced by Sophocles; the possibility of a reference to Hippolytos’ resurrection thanks to Asklepios dates the tragedy to the  twenties of the V century B.C.
